Hildegard von Bingen’s luminous O Virtus Sapientiae opens the evening, followed by the nocturnal colors of Kevin Puts’s Three Nocturnes and the haunting songs of Vaughan Williams’s On Wenlock Edge. Beethoven’s String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 18, No. 6 closes the journey, moving from brilliance into the mysterious shadows of La Malinconia.
